Class A Manual Machinist

Briefing:

Dixon Automatic Tool, Inc. is a family-owned business founded in 1946 and we are located in the south-east side of Rockford IL. We design and build automated assembly machinery with close tolerance tooling and construction, along with OEM and outside “job shop” work.

We are looking for an experienced Class A Manual Machinist to fill a Full-Time position. This is not a remote position.

This position is responsible for machining low volume tooling, modifications to tooling, or secondary operations using:

  • Tree & Bridgeport vertical manual mills with digital readouts
  • Manual lathes
  • Surface grinders
  • Band saws
  • Drill press
  • Polisher

Although helpful to have skills in the following equipment in our shop, it is not necessary:

  • CNC vertical mills such as Doosan, Fadal, Milltronics knee mills
  • Mazak CNC lathes with live tooling
  • MasterCAM, Solidworks, G-Code, and Mazatrol software/languages.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Machining low volume tooling complete (from raw materials or blanks/castings)
  • Perform precise secondary machining on low volume production parts
  • Perform re-work on completed tooling parts requiring modifications
  • Concept, machine, and assemble fixtures as requested
  • Read Routing Instructions, Interpret Blueprints 2D & 3D Models
  • Setup manual mills and lathes for machining operations
  • Prepare raw material and de-burr completed parts
  • Perform inspection checks of parts to specifications
  • Manage direct and in-direct time efficiently
  • Keep work area clean and safe
  • Perform daily machinery upkeep of chips, coolant, & lubrication
  • Work with and train other employees

Qualifications:

  • Class A Manual Machinist
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience with precision manual milling, lathe, & grinding
  • Skilled in in general machining and processes, blueprint 2D/3D and routings
  • Experienced in current metals & plastics, and the machining techniques required
  • Excellent math skills, spatial-understanding and awareness
  • 4-years’ experience of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Personal Integrity, Attention to Detail, Pride of Workmanship, excellent work habits

Job Type: Full-time, In-Person, Not-Remote

Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
